The Union Home Mortgage Foundation would not be where we are today without the support of our amazing Union Home Mortgage Partners! Each month we are highlighting one of these outstanding partners and this month’s Most Valuable Partner is Melissa Ellingsen, Licensed Production Partner at UHM.

Melissa has been with UHM for just over a year and a half and resides in Crown Point, Indiana. Her husband, Dave, is the current branch manager of UHM's Crown Point office, where she is the Licensed LOA Team Captain. She has been in the mortgage industry for 15 years doing various roles. She has a degree in dental hygiene which she practiced before mortgage. She has a daughter that lives in Denver, Colorado and a son who lives in Austin, Texas. She enjoys spending time with her family and her 2 dogs. In her spare time, she enjoys rides on her pontoon boat, reading, doing sudoku and crossword puzzles and is a huge IU basketball fan!

Q: Why do you support the UHM Foundation?

A: "So often I have wanted to do something to help people in our community, and just didn’t know where to begin, or where to find a cause that I can help with.  I have never worked for any companies that have something like the UHM Foundation.  It inspires me to get more involved with helping others, and to seek out different avenues to do so!"

Q: How do you support the UHM Foundation

A: "I support the UHM Foundation through payroll deduction, but I also get involved with their initiatives, like their partner backpack project!"

Q: What is your favorite memory of the UHM Foundation?

A: "The City of Crown Point gets names from the CP schools of families in need of help, and each Christmas does an “adopt a family” event. Last Christmas, there were 12 families.  I collected donations just from my CP partners, got the sizes that were needed, went shopping, and we were able to provide winter boots for every person in those families that needed them (16 pairs).  They later contacted us because they needed laundry detergent for the families, and we were able to supply that as well.  I hope to do the same this year!"

Q: How else are you involved in your community?

A: "Thanks to the UHM Foundation, we participated in the backpack drive this year!  We filled 55 backpacks with school supplies and donated them to the Northwest Indiana Community Action Corp.  That was a lot of fun, and very fulfilling! We were told that half of the backpacks were going directly to the East Chicago Schools resource police officer so he could identify students that were in need.  We even received a letter from the East Chicago police Chief thanking us and saying what an impact it made."

Thank you, Melissa, for all the wonderful ways you support the Union Home Mortgage Foundation and nonprofits in your community!
