Taking off in 2021, the UHM Foundation will be débuting our newest program- uLaunch! Under our Career Readiness Pillar, this program is a multifaceted, interactive experience for high-school-aged students. Whether the participant is college bound or not, this done-in-a-day program starts with an overview of introductory roles in the mortgage industry, 2-3 professional development topics, and then ends the day with a panel of UHM professionals and Leadership. This program will be launched virtually in early January.
In the future with hopes that we can eventually host a session in our corporate office or visit a non-profit or high school on-site, we will continue to offer virtual experiences, to expand our reach with not only our non-profit partners but also continued volunteer opportunities to our UHM Partners across the country.
Nonprofits or high schools participating in this experience will be able to choose from our UHM-created curriculum on overarching skills like: Communication, Leadership, Financial Literacy, Interview Skills, and much more!
Our curriculum, created by UHM professionals that have extensive experience and knowledge on each topic, is guided by the NACE Career Readiness Core Competencies. These competencies consist of:
- Critical Thinking/ Problem Solving
- Oral/Written Communications
- Teamwork and Collaboration
- Digital Technology
- Leadership
- Professionalism/ Work Ethic
- Career Management
- Global/ Intercultural Fluency
With 29 courses developed pertaining to many of these competencies, students will get a sense of the skills needed for today’s workforce. Each course was created with the intention to engage student virtually with several discussion topics, interactive activities and even a virtual Jeopardy game to test their knowledge at the end of the workshop.
24 UHM Partners from a vast variety of departments and positions have volunteered to be a part of our initial uLaunch Volunteer Corps. Each partner will facilitate and teach the classes when available throughout the year! For UHM Partners that want to participate and lead a class- it is not too late to get involved! All volunteers will virtually go through a volunteer training course to be briefed on what to expect. To learn more, go to the foundation’s new volunteer site under employee resource groups.
