The $3,000 grant by the UHM Foundation $3,000 will support EMBRACE Action's Project IDEA Book Drive.
Union Home Mortgage Foundation Makes Donation to EMBRACE Action
Frisco, Texas – May 26, 2021 – Following a year that saw division and tension within our communities, the Union Home Mortgage Foundation, a charitable organization whose mission is to equip families with the tools and resources to achieve economic self-sufficiency, today announced it is giving back by donating $3,000 to local nonprofit EMBRACE Action towards their Project IDEA Book Drive.
EMBRACE Action was founded in June 2020 by mothers from Frisco of school-aged children. The organization’s mission is to bridge the racial empathy and awareness gap in our communities by providing resources to families and organizations committed to learning about oppression by promoting inclusion. Project IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Awareness) was launched in 2021 with a goal to diversify the content of Frisco Independent School District (FISD) elementary and middle school libraries by donating 5,000 diverse books that represent all FISD students.
“We believe that increased literacy rates are critical to the health of our communities. Children need to see different cultures, ethnicities, and abilities in stories that they can personally relate to and that reflect their own experiences,” said Bill Cosgrove, President and CEO of Union Home Mortgage, “We are proud to support the mission behind Project IDEA. There is no better way to inspire a lifelong love of reading and a feeling of inclusion for these students.”
EMBRACE Action is one of 11 non-profit organizations Union Home Mortgage Foundation has supported so far this year.
“We launched EMBRACE Action out of the desire to create sustained change in our community, to raise awareness about racism and provide a safe, nonjudgmental environment where individuals could gather resources and tools,” said Kaanji Irby, Executive Director of EMBRACE Action. “This year, we have partnered with some amazing organizations to launch several initiatives focused on learning, awareness and community building. Our recent book drive would not have been successful if not for the generous support of the UHM Foundation.”
The Union Home Mortgage Foundation was established in 2015 to help equip individuals and families with the tools and resources to achieve economic self-sufficiency, specifically through education, career readiness, financial literacy and housing.
